Comprehensive IP Video Solutions and Services
Optimize and modernize your network for IP video delivery
CommScope’s IP Video Solution is an ideal choice for service providers seeking to optimize their networks for next-generation technologies and improve the subscriber experience. CommScope can help optimize and sustain existing video systems while, in parallel, managing the deployment of new IP video systems. A full, end-to-end solution, CommScope’s IP Video Solution is a single source for all the components of an IP video delivery system, from the back office to the edge of the network.
CommScope’s IP Video Solution can provide an efficient way for service providers to streamline operations and lower Total Cost of Ownership, while also paving the way for optimized network operation. As part of a wider strategy of bandwidth optimization, migration to IP video can help reclaim portions of the RF spectrum to increase network capacities and speeds. Therefore, by adding more high-speed data capabilities to the plant, service providers can potentially reduce subscriber churn and recapture cord-cutting subscribers who want to stream content.
A flexible solution, CommScope’s IP Video Solution supports on-premise, cloud-based, and hybrid IP video architectures. It also supports multiple types of IP video services, including:
- Live/Linear Broadcast
- Video on Demand (VOD)
- Network DVR, Start Over TV, Catch-up TV, and Rewind TV
- A variety of Ad Insertion options, including schedule-based, programmed, open-bid, and full Manifest Manipulation
- Multi-screen clients and apps
- Personalized and regionalized channels and services
IP Video Solution Architecture
The CommScope IP Video Solution Architecture comprises back office, video packaging, and data plane functions. It’s an end-to-end solution using modular building blocks that supports all your IP video delivery and management requirements, as shown in the diagram below.
CommScope’s IP Video Solution can help modernize networks currently operating with aging and/or End-of-Life video infrastructures. Service Providers can deploy CommScope’s IP Video Solution in the cloud, on premises, or in a hybrid architecture and streamline headend and hub sites by eliminating equipment to reclaim rack space and save power. In fact, CommScope’s IP Video Solution can help streamline operations across the board by leveraging industry-standard encoding, packaging, and distribution protocols for content, as well as leveraging subscribers’ IP clients and IP set-top boxes.

Video Media Path Functions and Options
CommScope’s IP Video Solution offers a variety of video processing options to support whatever IP service or services a service provider chooses to roll out. The solution supports on-premise, appliance, and software-based deployments, as well as cloud-based implementations.
For service providers that require on-premise, appliance-based video packaging solutions—which offer longer life spans, higher density, and improved Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)—CommScope’s IP Video Solution features the CommScope® ME7000 for encoding and partner products for packaging. CommScope can also provide software-based encoding and packaging that can operate on off-the-shelf servers, private clouds, and public clouds.

CommScope’s IP Video Solution Content Delivery Network (CDN) packaging and encoding options and features include:
- Just-In-Time Packaging (JIT-P) for Linear Video Services with rolling buffer
- IP-based HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH).
- Kubernetes-based, virtualized video packaging option to support real-time video and transcoder packaging for multi-screen delivery of live content in a variety of encode formats and resolutions, including both standard and high definition
CommScope’s IP Video Solution CDN management function—a crucial component of delivering IP video packages optimally and efficiently—supports origin caching, the process by which an edge server receives content from an origin server. The CDN facilitates this process by caching content close to the edge of the network.
CommScope’s IP Video Solution can also include Content Delivery Network (CDN) and Multicast Adaptive Bit Rate (MABR) systems for efficient IP Video delivery. Together with CDN, they support origin shield caches, content caching closer to the edge of the networks

Back Office Functionality
CommScope can implement a proven, feature-rich back office system and functions, from subscriber management to business metrics, or service providers can use their existing systems. Currently deployed by over 100 service providers and media companies, CommScope’s IP Video Solution’s back office plane can integrate seamlessly with existing service provider systems and third-party vendors, simplifying the management of new IP video deployments and improving the time to go live.
Deployed in the cloud across multiple availability zones, the system enables service providers to deploy IP video by managing:
• Self-signup of households/subscribers
• Billing integration for credit card and post-pay options
• Live and linear packages
• Subscription, Transactional, Ad sponsored, and free VOD
• Time-shifted viewing: catch-up, restart, pause, rewind, network PVR
• Search and recommendations
• Efficient operational control and monitoring
The system also supports a variety of metrics, including reporting and business intelligence, to provide valuable insights into the viewing habits and trends of subscribers, network performance, Quality of Experience (QoE), and other key business information.
Service providers can use also CommScope’s IP Video Solution to manage and deploy a variety of apps for subscribers, including brandable apps and White Label apps for iOS, Android, Android set-top boxes, and Smart TVs.
